Meissner expanding footprint with Irish gov support

Filtration firm Meissner will establish a facility in County Mayo, Ireland for the manufacture of single-use systems, creating 150 jobs.

Meissner Filtration Products has taken advantage of a 34,000 square-foot facility Advanced Technology Building, constructed by Ireland’s investment agency IDA, and plans to expand it by a further 100,000 square-feet.

The firm plans to construct a cleanroom within the existing facility to be used for the manufacture of single-use systems (SUS) to support biopharmaceutical clients. Adjacent land at the site in Castlebar, County Mayo has also been procured to support potential plans to more than triple the facility’s current footprint.

“We have seen substantial growth in our SUS portfolio over the past 10 years and ensuring we have capacity in excess of customer demand is critical,†Christopher Meissner, CEO of Meissner said in a statement.

“Additionally, we acutely recognize the value of manufacturing proximate to our customer base as well as geographically diversifying our manufacturing footprint. After an extensive search, we determined that Ireland was the ideal location to open our first European manufacturing facility.â€

More than 150 jobs will be created over the past five years, bringing a boost to the local economy.

“A global company of the calibre of Meissner represents a most welcome addition to the Lifesciences cluster in Castlebar and to the country’s supplier base in general, an important consideration in the retention and attraction of both current and new investment,†IDA Ireland executive director Mary Buckley said.

“It also demonstrates, once again, the value of IDA Ireland creating Advance Technology and Office buildings in regional locations to strengthen their value proposition in seeking to attract Foreign Direct Investment.â€

While financials have not been disclosed, the deal is supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.

Meissner did not respond to BioProcess Insider when contacted for further details.
